What makes a good business?
I believe that amongst the many things that make a good business, DOING good things for the community the business serves, is a key ingredient. For me that includes the team that works within the business to make it all happen on a daily basis, our customers, suppliers, and the wider community.
When building Naked Specs, I was unwavering about the fact that someone in need would benefit whenever we sold a pair of glasses. By now you probably know that whenever you buy a pair of specs or sunglasses, we give up to 5 pairs of glasses, or equivalent in funding, to a community development eye care project somewhere in the world. In fact, one of our giving gifts is a Vitamin programme for the prevention of blindness to children in Africa. In that case, 500 people benefit from your purchase of just 1 pair.
We're making a difference to the lives of people in need on a regular basis, and that brings me a huge amount of joy and satisfaction. Imagine if every purchase you made in the course of your life had a micro-gift attached to it.... what a difference we could all make to the world that we live in. B1G1 is a great place to find businesses with a similar philosophy to Naked Specs, where your purchase makes a difference to some in need.
If you have a good story about other businesses with great 'giving' models, we'd love to hear about them.
Wishing you a lovely Easter break.
